Inquiry-Based Learning

The children’s interests and innate curiosity in the world around them are significant. As we hope that learning becomes intriguing for the children, their interests are tied in closely and active engagements with questions and problems are made.

The child is a constructor of their own knowledge and their learning experiences are built on their inquiry. They are seen as active participants rather than passive recipient (Touhill, 2012). Questions and problems are posed, and children are empowered to investigate, research and share their findings with their peers.

How our children are engaged in the process of inquiry-based learning:

  1. I ask questions

  2. I investigate

  3. I create

  4. I discuss

  5. I reflect

Reggio Emilia Inspired Approach

Our teachers at Little Seedlings make use of the environment as the third teacher, where children are engaged in real and concrete experiences that are relevant and meaningful to them. Every day, our children become self-driven in directing their own learning as they make new discoveries. With an adult's facilitation, they will then develop their social, cognitive, linguistic and symbolic structure (Arseven, 2014).
