NURSERY 1
Take a glimpse of how a day in the life of a N1 child is like...
Our N1 Schedule!
The class caters children from 2 to 3 years old where we focus on Language & Literacy, Mother Language, Numeracy, Aesthetics & Creative Expression. There will be music and movement and different types of play that will help them with their motor skills.

Their Learning Experiences
Take a look at what our children from the Nursery 1 class have been learning!
Term 1 : Our Community
In Term 1, our N1 children learnt about their school that they are in. As they were new to the school, it was important for them to know their environment and know that it is a safe and fun place to be in.
Their different "mini excursions" around the school gave them opportunities to learn about the people working in school, other classes in school (Nursery 2, K1 and N2 classes) and also visited different parts of the school like the garden, outdoor dramatic play area etc. It gave children a sense of belonging in the school.
One of the activities we had, the children wanted to help Mr. Lee, our school gardener, to help water the plants in the garden.
Term 2 : Our Natural Environment
In Term 2, the children are learning about the topic on Farm Animals. Last week, the children went on a field trip to a farm and they saw many farm animals like cow, horse, pig, chicken and duck.
This week's lesson is to focus on the sounds that the farm animals make.
The two teaching techniques demonstrated in the lesson are:
1. Guidance
2. Building Relationships

Guidance
Ms Gracia uses guidance in her lesson by setting rules during the start of the lesson. She consistently reminds the children to cross their legs and sit properly. It is important to set clear and consistent limits for children to follow and be guided (Klein, 2008).
Ms Gracia also use effective praises whenever the child is able to do something after facing failures and also behaving well. Praises shape children’s self-esteem, builds up confidence and have a sense of self (raisingchildren.net.au, 2017). She praises each child explicitly on what they did well in and also after each problems that they managed to overcome. For example, “well done,Qistina, very good seating!”

Building Relationships
Building relationship is vital in the early years of children as it helps to enhance and improve their cognitive, social and language development (Stephens,2016). Ms Gracia created opportunities for children to build relationship by asking the children to work together, find out what farm animals they like too and singing together.
